Description

This is the first release of the Fettercairn 16 Year Old, released in 2020. It showcases a maturation journey designed to enhance the distillery's tropical character, derived from its unique copper cooling ring distillation process. Distilled using chocolate malted barley, the spirit was initially matured in first-fill American oak bourbon casks before being finished in a selection of sherry and port casks. The 2021 release specifically brought together spirit from Sherry matured and Sherry finished casks, including 1st fill Oloroso, refill Oloroso, and rare 1st fill aged Palo Cortado Sherry butts.

Sweet and fruity with notes of raisins, milk chocolate, fudge, blackberries, plums, brambles, and a hint of spice and dunnage warehouse. Also features boozy red berries, toasted teacakes, baked earth spiciness, chalky jammy fruits, caramel syrup, charred orange peel, toffee, tropical fruits like mango and pineapple, honey, vanilla, and sweet spice like cinnamon or nutmeg.
Palate
Medium thick mouthfeel, sweet with chocolate, plums, dried fruit, raisins, and dark chocolate, balanced by earthiness and oak. Also fruity coffee, hickory, grassy malt, Golden Syrup Cake, tobacco, nutmeg, cinnamon, cracked black pepper, strong coffee, and maple syrup.
Finish
Medium, earthy and rich, with caramel, toasted nuts, black pepper, and lingering cocoa. Also long, delicate, complex, toasted oak, plump raisins, candied ginger, gentle oakiness, and subtle spiciness.
