Girvan distillery was built in the early 1960s by famous whisky blenders William Grant & Sons after a strange spat with DCL saw the latter chosing to withdraw their grain supply to the former due to differences in commercial tastes. Nose
A trace of furniture polish, followed by fruity sweetness: apples, bananas and mandarins dominate, accompanied by honey, floral notes, vanilla sugar and white chocolate. Wholemeal toast, toffee and an accent of wood shavings round off the aroma.
Palate
Soft and creamy with fruity sweetness. Mandarins, peach and butterscotch are in the foreground, complemented by spicy liquorice and sweet honey. A hint of banana, which gives way to ripe pineapple and fresh citrus fruits, accompanied by a slight saltiness.
Finish
Long and soft, with sweet vanilla, peach and much spice. Slightly dry, characterized by oak notes and a fine, salty aftertaste.
