Nose
Opens on freshly sawn wood (perhaps with a hint of a freshly painted windowsill somewhere in a lumber yard) but dig deeper and there's Battenburg cake doused in custard (that's marzipan meets vanilla for the uninitiated), a rich maltiness (almost Screen but not that sticky), and resiny sweetness.
Palate
Rich and oily with a wonderful wood presence that resonates with a warm pepperiness but, again, dig deeper and this time there's rhubarb and custard boiled sweets, candy necklaces, and hints of ripe gooseberry.
Finish
Long and lasting while pleasantly drying with brown butter, crystallized ginger, and ground pepper.
