Description

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by Phillip 'Pip' Hills who, while travelling around Scotland in the 1970s, fell in love with whiskies drawn straight from the cask. After he expanded his syndicate the Society was purchased by Glenmorangie PLC in 2004. In 2015, the Society was sold back to private investors. Rich and spicy with notes of gingerbread, browned butter, star anise, baked apples, cherry turnover, tobacco, and a hint of greenness. It also presents bright, grassy, and tropical notes of coconut milk, golden kiwis, and banana runts, reminiscent of a blueberry coffee cake.
Palate
Medium-thick texture with a pleasant warmth. It's sweet and spicy with fragrant citron, raisins, tangerine, demerara, browned butter, Earl Grey tea, malt, and slight earth. Fruity notes of starfruit and white peaches are prominent.
Finish
Medium to slightly short, with a rich and smooth texture. It offers baking spices, hay, tea, malt, apples, and a fruity residue of tropical fruits and peaches.
