Historical context
1968 was a significant year for Glen Garioch, as the distillery was chosen to switch to distilling heavily peated whisky due to a drought affecting Islay and concerns about peat supply for blends.

Nose
Enormous battle between the fattest, cleanest juiciest sherry you can imagine and chunky peat. Tobacco and old ashes from an old pipe, mustard, oregano, sage, Maggi, smoked ham. With water, honey, chestnut honey.
Palate
Every bit as mouth filling and chewy as the nose suggests. Leather, more mustard, lemon, tobacco, walnut wine. Chocolate locked in a duel with smoke, with a sublime dryness. With water, citrus, blood oranges and bergamots.
Finish
Ladles of molten chocolate and sweet peat plus cherries and vanilla. Very long, utterly sublime, salted butter, crème brûlée, old walnuts, fir honey, sweet paprika, ashes.
