Description

Glen Garioch distillery, founded in 1797, is one of Scotland's oldest operating distilleries, located in the Highland region of Aberdeenshire. This 1972 vintage single malt was bottled as an Official Bottling exclusively for Oddbins. The year 1972 was significant for the distillery, as a new water source was found and an expansion began after a period of suspension. Glen Garioch whiskies from this era are known for their distinct character, often including peated notes, as the distillery used heavily peated malt until 1995.

Nose
Complex, with mineral peat, delicate sootiness, mint, eucalyptus, and old-style sherry notes like tobacco leaves, leather, and blackberry jam. Also chalky notes, old books, and whiffs of tropical fruits such as grapefruit and dried mango.
Palate
More peaty than the nose, with tropical fruit, Seville oranges, Earl Grey tea, deep soot, and spices like cloves and cardamom. Minty notes, resinous wood, delicate herbs, and a hint of mustard seed. It can also present notes of musty basement, old furniture, dark chocolate, raisins, and a meaty character.
Finish
Long, with spicy fruit cake, a gentle bitterness, coastal notes, lingering smoke, and tobacco. It can also have notes of raisins, lamb shank, and a sweet and meaty character.
