Description

One of the biggest names in Scotland's Speyside region, currently under Italian ownership by the Campari Group. Opened in 1840 by James and John Grant, it has one of Scotch whisky's longest-running single malt brands and played a key role in the emergence of the category in the 20th century. Perhaps one of Scotland's most important whisky companies, Gordon & MacPhail is a historic blender, independent bottler, and retailer. This rare and exclusive Glen Grant single malt, aged for half a century, is part of the Distillery Labels series.

Nose: Rich Sherry influences with plum, raisin, charred oak, dark fruits, chocolate, old oak furniture, furniture polish, honey, orange peels, red berries, Espresso, leather, slight metallic touch, smoky notes, oil, petrol, grease, salty, menthol.
Palate: Sweet with hints of stewed apple, pear, lingering coffee edge, dark dried fruits, amazing volume, raisins, plums, old oak kitchen furniture, orange peels, leather, Espresso, dark honey, chocolate, red berries, citric and sour notes, thick and oily mouthfeel, soft caramel, milk chocolate, metallic or ink notes, kumquats, waxy elements, menthol.
Finish: Long and lingering, coffee edge, wonderful aromatic, intense leather flavors, dried fruits, oaky notes, orange marmalade, caramel, mocha, tobacco, menthol, beeswax, cacao, woody notes, herbal notes, subtle but persisting dried fruit sweetness, hint of bitterness.

The rich sherry character and dried-fruit sweetness have plenty to enjoy, but this isn’t simply sweetness turned up and left there. Coffee, charred oak, and the palate’s citric and sour notes bring useful contrast, while the finish’s hint of bitterness keeps the caramel and lingering fruit from feeling too neat. That balance makes the whisky more compelling than a straightforward sweet dram, with enough weight and savoury detail to keep the conversation going.
