Description

Glen Scotia 46 Years Old is the distillery's oldest and rarest release to date, with only 150 individually numbered bottles available worldwide. This single malt was distilled in December 1974 and initially matured in refill bourbon casks for 36 years. It was re-casked into first-fill bourbon in 2011, and finally finished for four years in a single first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead before being bottled in 2022 at 41.7% ABV. The liquid was laid down during a significant period for the distillery as it underwent a four-year investment and renovation program. The expression is non-chill filtered and presented in a luxurious handmade oak display case.

Nose
A bouquet of tropical fruits, particularly mango and pineapple, with hints of fresh orange, caramel, sea spray, rich dried fruit, citrus peel, sweet thick toffee, and fresh vanilla. Time in the glass brings forward more sherried notes and a dash of pepper.
Palate
An oily, velvet mouthfeel. Delicate and vibrant. Tropical fruits carry through with pineapple notes mixing delicately with sweet vanilla. Layers of melted brown sugar and golden caramel, baked apple, and poached pear in vanilla syrup with orange citrus notes.
Finish
Long maritime finish with sea salt and waves of warming cinnamon and nutmeg spice. The sherry influence and oak spices come to the fore right at the end.
