Description

After an initial maturation in traditional ex-bourbon barrels, this bold and spicy Glenallachie spent four years in a particularly good quality new oak casks. At 18-years-old, it shows inviting notes of pecan pie, demerara sugar and fallen leaves, that give way to sawn oak, cinder toffee and cashew butter. The palate is rich and textured, with orange cake, masala chai and gingerbread leading into salted butter, dark chocolate and a warming touch of red chilli.

Nose
Lots of rounded vanilla notes, brown sugar and cake. Spearmint and clove studded oranges, with a hint of caramelised white chocolate. Oak shavings, sweet fruitiness (apricot), mead, floral honey, candied ginger, and hints of butter cream. Cherry cake with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, desiccated coconut, crystallised ginger, raisins, sultanas, baked apples, creamy vanilla, and crème brûlée.
Palate
Prominent wood, warming American whiskey markers like maple syrup, leathery notes, clove, and chilli. Toffee, orange zest, coconut cake, baking spice (cinnamon, gingerbread, pecan pie, earthy pepper). Sharp apple sauce, baked apples with brown sugar and creamy custard. Spice with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, black pepper. Dark sweetness, sticky ginger cake, spiced sponge cake batter, maraschino cherries, and cassis.
Finish
Quite long, with caramelized nuts, mint, cardamom, and salted butter. Spiced oatmeal and raisin cookies with Granny Smith apples and menthol zinginess.
