Description
Glencadam Distillery is located about half a mile outside the ancient city and royal burgh of Brechin, within the kingdom of Angus, in the eastern Highlands of Scotland. The essential supply of pure water for Glencadam depends on Glencadam's ancient rights to springs, about half a mile away in the Unthank Hills. Glencadam has operated two pot stills since the beginning. An unusual feature about the stills is that they are pipes turning down to an angle of 15 degrees rather than downwards. The belief is that this helps to produce a particularly delicate and mellow spirit that, after maturation, yields sweet and fruity notes in the final product. This expression has been bottled at 46%vol to retain the whisky's unique and natural characteristics and subtlety of taste, and, by not chill filtering this whisky, the natural oils and soluble components in the whisky are preserved to enhance presence and flavour. No caramel colouring has been added to this single malt so that the naturalness of the whisky from the cask can be enjoyed to the full. It is a rich and complex Single Malt Whisky with sweet caramel and ripe tropical fruit, plus savoury flavours of crushed nuts, leather, malted barley, and abundant oak spice.
