Description

A malt distillery located in Forgue by Huntly in the eastern Highland region. As of 2016 it is American-owned by the Brown-Foreman Corporation through its Benriach Distillery Company subsidiary. Famed for its preference for sherry cask-ageing, it has long been an established single malt brand.

Nose
Instant deep dark burnt sugar, dry fruits bursting with raisins, dates, prunes, figs, mellowed into a rum soaked plum Christmas cake, musty old antique furniture polish, rancio element, well oiled leather, demera reduction blending with laguna custard, cinnamon, cloves, Demerara sugar and Pedro Ximenez sherry notes, dark chocolate and figs.
Palate
Strongest 'old leather' quality, compared to a grandfather's tobacco pouch, allspice added to the cinnamon and cloves, ripe dark cherries, luxuriant chocolate-coated raisins, wave of spices, explosion of sweet molasses, Demerara, and mocha.
Finish
Dry, warm and beautiful, prunes, gentle and medium in length with notes of cappuccino, dark chocolate and a whisper of fennel.
