Description

In 1826 the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice, along with a consortium of local farmers, founded the distillery and began producing his "Guid GlenDronach" single malt. Unfortunately Allardice's marketing strategy of offering free drams to Edinburgh's "ladies of night", coupled with a fire at the distillery in 1837, led to him declaring bankruptcy. Thankfully however, the story doesn't end ...

Nose
Deep, rich fig jam, stewed pluots, raisins, Christmas cake with plump cherries, vanilla pods, fruit compote, blackberries, toffee, milk chocolate, dessert-sweetness, mellow-polish edge.
Palate
Thick, viscous, coating mouthfeel. Spicy semisweet chocolate, dark chocolate (80% cacao), ginger spice, woody tannins, ashen note, gritty flint, coco powder, black coffee, stewed figs and plums, caramel, earthy, forest floor, very gentle tobacco-like peat.
Finish
Long, with a dry-bitter sweetness akin to a very high coco-content dark chocolate, ginger spice, plums, raisins, sweet ashy-meatiness.
