This exceptional sherried single malt is non-chill filtered and of natural color, matured exclusively in the finest Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV. This 2019 bottling is particularly notable as the liquid within is understood to be significantly older than its stated age, potentially 23 to 24 years old, due to the distillery's silent period between 1996 and 2002. Nose
Deep aromatics of fudge and dark muscovado sugar, with fruit compote and morello cherries. Notes of dark, dusty, juicy sherry tartness, citrus peels, maraschino cherries, dried fruit, dark-roast coffee grounds, cloves, vanilla, browned butter, toffee, cocoa powder, well-worn leather, and chocolate-chip banana bread.
Palate
Rich, dark, and seductive with remarkable flavors of stewed fruits and allspice, marrying with classical aged Oloroso and toasted walnut bread and chocolate orange. Medium texture, rich oloroso, spice-forward notes of black pepper, cinnamon, clove, cocoa powder, vanilla-poached pears, baked apples, unexpected tropical fruit sweetness (vanilla, coconut, demerara sugar), old, musty oak, rich pipe tobacco, hint of smoked meat, leather furniture, and dark chocolate.
Finish
Long and magnificent, with lingering notes of musty oak, cane-sugar cola, crystallized pineapple, rum-raisin ice cream, vanilla, dark chocolate ganache, and a hint of peat smoke. Also includes soaked raisins, sweet dried fruits, chocolate, oak, ginger, cinnamon, hazelnuts, walnuts, and spicy wood.
