Description

In 1826 the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice, along with a consortium of local farmers, founded the distillery and began producing his "Guid GlenDronach" single malt. Unfortunately Allardice's marketing strategy of offering free drams to Edinburgh's "ladies of night", coupled with a fire at the distillery in 1837, led to him declaring bankruptcy. Rich treacle toffee, creamy toffee, poached pears in syrup, subtle almonds, dark fruits (dates, figs, plums), orange, nuts, old leather, pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, coffee grinds, vanilla, molasses, and maple syrup.
Palate
Caramelised brown sugar, rich dried fruits (figs, dates, sultanas), cloves, oak, sweet ginger, white pepper, molasses, bold mocha, toasted nuts, stewed fruit, chocolate covered dates, fig jam, plum pudding, candied orange, tobacco, and dark chocolate.
Finish
Long and robust with oak and pepper, a little heat from ginger, musty, earthy, and deliciously long lasting, with cocoa beans and hints of sweet barley sugar.
