Description

In 1826 the exuberant and extroverted James Allardice, along with a consortium of local farmers, founded the distillery and began producing his "Guid GlenDronach" single malt. Unfortunately Allardice's marketing strategy of offering free drams to Edinburgh's "ladies of night", coupled with a fire at the distillery in 1837, led to him declaring bankruptcy. Nose
Lovely smoked sherry influence, dried fruit salad, balsamic, smoked prunes, figs, pepper, cinnamon and clove. Softly rounded raisins and prunes evolve to vibrant spiced dark chocolate backed by a gentle herb note.
Palate
Delicious dark and bitter sweet plums, BBQ smoke and oak with a touch of dark chocolate, cardamom and clove. Demerara and ground coffee beans flow over the stewed dark fruits. Hints of spicy cigar box, mixed peel and soft clove add a great complexity.
Finish
Dark chocolate, oak, smoke and spices. Drying, long and satisfying.
