Nose
Complex and full, with heather honey, sweet vanilla fudge, dark fruits like raisins and plums, apple juice, caramel apple, oak, and slight baking spices. Hints of pipe tobacco, cranberries, cloves, and a nutty, leathery, earthy character. Some detect notes of burnt bacon, bitter chocolate, sticky toffee pudding, and Christmas cake. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20]
Palate
Rich and oily texture, with a gentle entry that builds to ripe fruit, oaky, winey, and tannic notes. Sweet, malty, and spicy, with layers of dried and cooked red fruits, marzipan, and fruity sherry. Hints of dried ginger, roasted almonds, bitter oak, and dark chocolate. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20]
Finish
Long and satisfying, with lingering brown-sugar sweetness, dried fruits, and spices. Notes of oak, red wine, stale raisins, figs, and almond paste.
