Description

One of the oldest distilleries within Speyside, and still in family hands since it was founded, the Glenfarclas Distillery is one of Speyside's independent whisky producers. The Grant family has been running Glenfarclas since 1860, producing an individual Speyside malt that many whisky enthusiasts number as one of their favourites. This extraordinary single-cask bottling was distilled on 4 November 1977, matured for 44 years in cask #7284, and bottled on 21 September 2022. Only 189 individually numbered bottles were produced, making it a landmark release for collectors.

Nose
An opulent bouquet opens with rich dried fruits — figs, raisins, candied orange peel — followed by elegant spice (cinnamon, clove), subtle leather and old polished oak. Time has allowed delicate cocoa and tobacco leaf to develop, layered above the hallmark Glenfarclas sherried malt core.
Palate
Full-bodied and luxuriously rich. The palate presents a tapestry of dark treacle, over-ripe orchard fruit, burnt toffee, and malted barley sweetness, under-pinned by refined oak spice, gentle tannin, and long-managed wood influence. The 44 years bring an exceptional depth and complexity.
Finish
Very long and lingering: the after-taste holds on with dried cherry, old mahogany, toasted nut, and a trace of sea salt minerality that hints at the Speyside location. The maturity means no harsh edges — just refined complexity.
