Nose
Big pear, sweet cream, pound cake. Sherry notes, light fig, plum, raspberry, mild cocoa. Tart red cherries covered in Christmas-y, cinnamon and clove spices...dipped in a chocolate fondue. Slightly resinous and musty. Grapey, cognac territory. Red plums, prunes with an underlying anise layer of smoke. Powerful peppermint spice, luscious sherry aroma. Raisins, plums, umeboshi, malt sponge cake. Light brown sugar coating, camphor and eucalyptus. Overripe kumquat. [5, 7, 11, 12, 14]
Palate
Thick, rich, mouthfeel. Sweet, creamy, buttery and doughy. Mild sulfurous, clove and cocoa before sherry fruits. Dark, creamy sherry, strawberry compote, roasted coffee beans, chocolate, dried apricot, rum soaked raisins, and dried orange peel. Dry mouthfeel. Red fruits sweetness, herbal and oak bitterness. Deep notes of ripe berries, dark chocolate, and hints of toasted oak. [5, 7, 11, 12, 14, 15]
Finish
Long, wonderfully sweet. Sweet, doughy, lightly fruity. Dry, cinnamon, spicy, and ever so slightly sulphurous. Long and satisfying, well-rounded and mature. Warming with a spicy blanket of tart Welch's (concord) grape juice, finishes with a tantalizing medicinal grape flavored cough syrup note. [5, 7, 9, 11]
