Description

Still in family hands since it was founded, the Glenfarclas Distillery is one of Speyside's independent whisky producers. The Grant family has been running Glenfarclas since 1860, producing an individual Speyside malt that many whisky enthusiasts number as one of their favourites. The water source is melt water from the slopes of Ben Rinnes which runs through granite and heather before reaching Gl ... This is a 1965 vintage release from Glenfarclas as part of the 9th outturn of bottlings in their Family Casks range, matured in a sherry butt and bottled in 2012 at natural cask strength.

Very nutty, shoe polish, toffee, dried fruits, raisins, coffee, hints of leather, pot-herbs, garden lovage, parsley, whiffs of Worcester sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, little meaty, black olive, mahogany, rich old sherry and peppery malt, a little smoke prune juice.
Palate
Intense, oily, liquorice, dried fruits, good sweetness, nuts, fine leather notes, finest sherry wood, more pot herbs, cooked fruits, toffee, coffee, chocolate, nutmeg, spices, sausages, smoky and rich, dark dried fruits, prune, stem ginger, cocoa and smoky espresso.
Finish
Long, warm, still very fresh and intense, not tired, not drying, just perfect, good length with a hint of something floral on the tail.
