Description

The Glenfiddich 19 Year Old Age of Discovery Red Wine Cask Finish is the third expression in the Age of Discovery Collection, commemorating Charles Darwin's 1831 voyage on HMS Beagle to South America. This single malt Scotch whisky is aged for 19 years and finished in oak casks that previously held South American red wines, including Malbec, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This process imparts spicy, rich, and smooth characteristics with a velvety sweetness and warm, spicy notes. It is a limited edition release.

Nose
Toasted marshmallow with red berry and vanilla oak tannin. Ripe fruits and a hint of woody spice. Earthy notes, wet leaves, wine-y notes, vanilla, mustard seeds, icing sugar, orange, brown sugar.
Palate
Spicy notes, deep and smooth with a velvety sweetness. Rich oak notes and berry sweetness. Black pepper, ginger, chili, baked apples, grapes, cinnamon. Rum and raisin chocolate, dark berries, black forest gateaux, earthy tobacco-like notes, red berry infused aromatic tea, spiced dates, Ribena/blackcurrant notes. Hints of ripe berries, dark chocolate, and a touch of spice.
Finish
Sweet with a long, lingering tannin. Medium long finish. Spices balance fruity notes, earthy base. Caramelized sugar, orange creme brulee. Oak aged rose wine, plum jam, earthy black cherry, high percentage cocoa chocolate, strawberry shortbread, raisin & black grape jelly. Dry oak and a faint dash of smoke.
