Description

If you're looking for a treat at a great price, you'll love the Glenlivet 15 Year Old, a French Oak Reserve matured in Limousin Oak (highly unusual for Scotch). This dram is ideal if you have a sweet tooth, packed with mellow fruity flavours as well as winter spices and of course lots of oak. A portion of the spirit is matured in French Limousin oak casks, cut in France's Dordogne region, which allows the whisky to sink deep into the wood, lending a signature spiciness without overpowering the refined character.

Nose
Creamy, rich, buttery. A hint of pineapple and honey, quickly followed by baked banana and vanilla, with some subtle spices in the background as well as some breakfast tea. Orchard fruits (chiefly pear & apple), pineapple, cherries, mixed with dried fruits (raisins & cherries), oak, sweet malt/bready, some nuttiness, light but discernible baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, light cloves), honey, vanilla, floral notes, & a hint of brown sugar. Sweet toffee and dark fruits, cherry, vanilla, and touches of cinnamon with almond or hazelnut notes.
Palate
Fruit and nut. Plenty of spicy oak influence, mainly cloves but also some nutmeg. There's a tinge of fennel too, although it has a sweeter element as well. Think of raisins, nougat and cinnamon. Light honey, hints of brown sugar, and vanilla lead a sweet palate. Some tannic oak, spices of cinnamon and white pepper, maybe cardamom; star fruit and savory apple, maybe a touch of pear. Well-balanced flavors of dark fruits – especially cherry with vanilla, cinnamon, and roasted hazelnut. Starts with assertive black pepper & baking spices (cinnamon) mixed with fruity sweetness (mix of cherries, raisins, some orchard fruits), some vanilla, very prominent oak, malt, nut (almond) paste. Rounded and smooth, with notes of citrus (orange, grapefruit), nuts (almond, hazelnut), gentle oak spice (cinnamon, clove), vanilla, and light malt.
Finish
Lingering, sweet almond and spice. Short to medium with light pastry notes, honey and another sprinkle of cinnamon. Wood sugars, wood spice, some vanilla and creamy malt. White fruit, white bread, pears - quite bright overall, and very soft. A bit of pepper spice lingers in the aftertaste; it's a medium-short finish. A medium to long finish – balanced and smooth. Changes from dark fruits to sweet vanilla and finishes out with light spices. 5-7 seconds (ends with oak, black pepper, baking spices, hint of fruitiness & vanilla, mild oak tannins). Drying and minty finish. Accented by almonds, nutmeg and pie crust.
