Description

One of the best-known names in Speyside, the distillery was founded in 1859 by George Smith and remained family-owned until the 1970s when acquired by Seagram. It is today the crown jewel of the Pernod Ricard portfolio and one of the best-selling single malt brands globally. This is an older style Glenlivet produced in the 1970s, noted for its distinct dried, buttery, mineral, grassy, and lemony profile with touches of wildflowers, dried herbs, and lighter green fruits.

Nose
Apples, white wine, pineapple, earthiness bordering on light peat, pencil shavings, cinnamon sugar, coconut, Amontillado. Strong malt, strong fruit, tart green apples, light floral, light juicy fruit, oak, slight leather. Fresh pineapple slices, brown sugar, and champagne.
Palate
Big apple note, licorice, light oak, honey, orange citrus, malty, mixed dried berries. Sweet barley sugar, bitter oak tannins, tart apples, juicy fruit, oak spice, malt, light honey. Full and smooth mouthfeel. Layers of fruit in an apple medley and a bit of honeydew melon. Vanilla, honey, and brown sugar notes.
Finish
Medium length. Stewed fruits, dried pineapple, cereal grains, wet cave, a bit of nutmeg, slight salinity. Hint of oak spice along with vanilla and the tiniest bit of leather. Longest lasting note is a bit of honeydew melon. Sweetness fades quickly as the bitter oak turns very spicy, fruits hold in the background.
