Description

A Highland malt distillery formerly located in Fort William. Founded in 1898, it became American-owned by National Distillers in 1937 before being sold to the Distillers Company in the 1950s who operated it in two stints until closing it down for good in 1983. Nose: woody; opening an empty drawer in a desk; but with a perfumed note, which grows: sweet peas, carnations, soap (Roger y Gallet carnation soap, to be precise); surprisingly fresh and fragrant.
Palate: deliciously sweet; like chewing sugared flowers, with a fresh acidity, like acid drops. Water… makes it more waxy; again the flavour is sweet and acidic (sherbert, acid drops), fresh and clean.
Finish: Fresh and clean.

The refill hogshead is a useful detail, though the notes point more clearly to the whisky’s fresh, perfumed character: sweet peas and carnations lead into a clean, sweet-acidic palate. That unusual floral edge sounds appealing.
