Description

The Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1995 is the fifth installment in Glenmorangie's prestigious Grand Vintage Collection, also known as the Bond House No.1 Collection. This limited edition single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in 1995, the year Dr. Bill Lumsden joined Glenmorangie, and bottled in 2019 after 23 years of maturation. It was initially matured in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks, then finished for over a decade in prestigious Margaux red wine casks. This expression was previously available as a Travel Retail Exclusive. The 1995 vintage is notable as one of the final whiskies to be warehoused in Bond House No.1 before its transformation into a still-house in 1996. Only 5400 bottles were released.

Nose
Deep and generous, with scents of butter popcorn and toffee apples enriched by nutmeg and baking bread. Cinnamon and clove surge forward, with a hint of chocolate. With water, an abundance of honey and baked fruits, coated in more milk chocolate, before Glenmorangie's citrus and vanilla hallmarks emerge in scents of clementine and creamy fudge. Initial floral and fruity aromas, such as honeysuckle and orange blossoms. Layers of apricot, peach, and tropical fruit emerge, underpinned by creamy vanilla and a hint of butterscotch. A gentle waft of almond, marzipan, and subtle oak spices adds depth.
Palate
Peppery textures bring a coolness to the palate, ushering in tastes of clove and further toffee apples, with cocoa, mint and a dusting of lemon sherbet. A smooth, full-bodied texture with a luscious burst of ripe pear, peach, and mango. Rich vanilla custard and honeyed sweetness intertwine with notes of ginger, nutmeg, and clove. Hints of toasted almonds, white chocolate, and a touch of oak tannin balance the sweetness.
Finish
Citrus notes linger, zesty and bittersweet, then fade into red berries and pear crumble, with a whisper of oak. Long and elegant, with lingering hints of citrus zest, creamy malt, and soft spices. A subtle dryness from the oak harmonizes the flavors beautifully.
