Description

This Glenrothes 2006 Single Cask #5454 is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, released as part of the first batch of Glenrothes' UK Exclusive Single Cask series. Distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2017, it was aged for 11 years in a first-fill sherry butt. This big, sherry-influenced malt whisky is limited to 636 bottles and was bottled at a cask strength of 67.2% ABV.

Nose
Fresh but fiery. Sherry influence is huge, with bright berries, cherries and orange peels. Toffee, butterscotch, honeycomb, demerara sugar and burnt caramel. Hints of cigar box and lightly tanned leather. Spicing is quite pronounced – ginger and cinnamon. Water brings out natural earthiness and hazelnut nuttiness.
Palate
Big and ballsy, with high viscosity. Rich berries, deep chocolate, roasted coffee and burnt toffee, joined by high level spicing, particularly pepper and ginger. Water increases fruitiness with stewed apples, orange marmalade and berry compote.
Finish
Long and initially aggressive, but when diluted brings a lovely selection of oak influence, pepper spicing and citrus peels.
