Nose
Freshly poured, it starts off with a whiff of OBE and musty notes. It then develops beautifully into Orange sponge cake, pine saps, eucalyptus, passion fruits, light leather, roses, fragrant wood musk and candied gummy bears. In time, the fruitiness gets more exotic and distinct, with mango and pink grapefruit. On the nose, it's clearly a lot more sherried and demonstrative than the 1968 20 year old, with an elegant and silky texture.
Palate
The palate is a lot richer, darker and more sherry dominant than expected from the nose, especially on the entry. It starts with mulled wines, drops of walnut liqueur, Orange bitters, cooked down pineapple jams and light wood smoke as well. Then the Glenugie distillate then makes an appearance with exotic fruit skins and rich sugar syrups. A light coastal salinity appears as well!
Finish
The finish is leathery and lightly earthy with salt, mango and lingering passion fruit.
