Description

Grand Old Parr Elizabethan is a very rare and beautiful limited edition blended Scotch whisky, released by Diageo's Greenlees Brothers subsidiary. It honors the 'Golden' Elizabethan era of British history and is presented in a hand-blown, pewter-stoppered decanter, with each side featuring historical figures like Thomas Parr, James I, Elizabeth I, and Henry VIII. Only 252 of these decanters were produced, each decorated with fine weaving in the style of Elizabethan lace patterns. The release includes a hardcover booklet titled 'The Golden Age'.

Nose
Complex yet not overwhelming, with notes of burnt caramel, dried fruit (raisin, sultana, candied orange peel), malty cereal, oaky wood spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), and a whiff of distant peat smoke.
Palate
Rich and full of impact, instantly malty with sweetness (honey, vanilla, cereals, caramel), backed by rich dried fruits (sultanas, raisins, fig), zesty orange, and a good pinch of wood/baking spice. A nice hidden smoke comes through midway.
Finish
Light and refreshing, with warming, slightly drying wood spices (cinnamon bark), bittersweet orange, and fading peat smoke. It can be dry initially, followed by a raisin-y sweetness with a peat cape.
