Description
Robert Haig was distilling as long ago as the early 17th century, making them one of the oldest Scotch whisky distillers. His great-grandson commercialized the family's whisky, and by 1733, the Stirlingshire-based distillery became Scotland's largest and the world's first commercial distillery. The Haig family also founded the Cameronbridge distillery in 1824, which became the first to produce grain whisky using the column still method in 1830. [cite: Scotch Whisky Auctions, 10, 23]
