The second malt distillery to be built in Japan by Suntory, it was opened in 1973. The original facility was replaced by a new one in 1981 and it has the ability to produce a range of different spirit styles. The Hakushu single malt brand tends to showcase its peated production however. This 7-year-old pure malt whisky is primarily made from select malt whiskies from the Hakushu distillery, with a small portion from the Yamazaki distillery.
