Description

From Suntory's mountain distillery which is found deep within the forests of Mount Kaikomagatake, Hakushu is owned by Suntory; founders of the first Japanese distillery, Yamazaki. The original Hakushu distillery was built in 1973, with another distillery building called Hakushu Higashi (West) added in 1981. This 10 Year Old Pure Malt is a distillery-only release, known for its crisp, vibrant, and lightly peated character, often matured in a combination of American oak, Spanish oak, and Japanese Mizunara casks.

Creamy with notes of butterscotch, mint, custard, and soft fruity peat smoke. Hints of oak, strawberry jam, grassy, vanilla, and citrus. Fresh acidic green apples, herbs, and pine.
Palate
Thick, rich, vanilla-led, with malt, grist, and soft oily peat. Notes of apples, pear, citrus, honey, and light spices with a gentle smoke. Light-bodied, smooth, slightly peppery, with faint caramel and green grapes.
Finish
Good finish with notes of toffee apple and smoked prune juice. Short, dry, with a lingering gentle smoke and a hint of floral notes.
