Description

From Suntory's mountain distillery, Hakushu, found deep within the forests of Mount Kaikomagatake, this is the 2014 Limited Edition Sherry Cask release. Hakushu is owned by Suntory, founders of the first Japanese distillery, Yamazaki. The original Hakushu distillery was built in 1973, with another distillery building called Hakushu Higashi (East) added in 1981. This single malt whisky was matured entirely in selected sherry casks and bottled at 48% ABV. Only 3,000 bottles were released, exclusively for the Japanese market.

Nose
Full-bodied and smooth, with a mellow peat softly coating the aromatic palette, prunes, forest fruits, pine, raisins, tree sap, green grass, and an inkling of smoke and malt.
Palate
Rich salted caramel, smooth and soft with good sweetness and winter spice, pears, dark cherries, oranges, clean malts with bursts of spices, and a minimal peat note bringing out a chocolatey note.
Finish
Long, spicy, and smooth, with sherry malt, light tannins, oak, tobacco, and leather notes, and dark chocolate.
