Description

This Ichiro's Malt Hanyu 2000 15 Year Old - The Final Vintage is a special release from Ichiro Akuto, featuring whisky from the Hanyu distillery, which closed in 2000 and was dismantled in 2004. Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the Hanyu founder, acquired the remaining stock and bottled it under his Ichiro's Malt label. Distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2015, this 15-year-old single malt represents the final vintage from the renowned Japanese distillery. It was bottled at 46.5% ABV without coloring or chill-filtration, and is a limited edition of 3710 bottles.

Nose
Intriguing, with deep and warm vanilla notes, cinnamon, powdered sugar, malt drops, camphor candy, puff pastry, caramel, baked apples, and hints of ashes. Freshness comes in the form of melon, green apple, sprightly orange, and buttery, toasty aromas. Digestive biscuits, anise, mint, loose genmaicha, cloves, and ultra-nutty sherry notes are also present.
Palate
Rich and oily mouthfeel. Thick and floral honey mixed with ginger, peppermint, white pepper, almonds, marzipan, and puff pastry covered in powdered sugar. A sharp, refreshing blast of green fruit, full-on cinnamon, barrel char, and leather. The contrast between soft, plump fruit and sturdier, spicy notes is notable. Also, malty caramels, slightly bitter notes, walnuts, almonds, flowers, ginger beer, and a bitter stout.
Finish
Medium to long, with spices fading to soft oakiness and an intimate sweetness. Continues with fruit and oak, with the oak just shading it. Also, hops, citrus, flowers, molasses, black pepper, and something almost smoky. Long, warm, and dry.
