Description

When tasting this Hellyer's Road, it is impossible not to make reference to the sublime 17 year old also distilled in 2002 and released in our 2021 Creation Catalogue French Connections. To our delight, we find the same subtle combination of classicism and exuberance, and the same desire to conquer new lands of flavour and aroma. The original start of the finish is a perfect example.

Nose
full-bodied, ethereal. Dominated by notes of coffee, resin and freshly cut grass, the first nose also reveals lots of minerality (slate, clay). Allowed to breathe, vanilla pod, chocolate, candied citrus fruit (lemon, grapefruit) and cut hay highlight the extreme concentration of the aroma palette. With time, white fruits (pear, peach) and nuts (cashew, hazelnut) start to appear. A superb development.
Palate
rich, dynamic. The attack is much more extroverted than the nose implies and immediately exotic (guava, persimmon), milky (coconut, yoghurt), honeyed (acacia) and cocoa-like. With incredible purity, the mid-palate sketches the backbone of this Hellyrer's Road in Indian ink. Sublime fragrances of heady florals (tuberose, gillyflower, lily) float in the air without making it heavy. Magnificent! Gradually, we return to the understated charm of the aroma palette.
Finish
long, distinguished. At the start of the finish, courgette flower, white mint, saffron and cardamom seeds highlight the very noble expression of the stately flavour palette. On the retro-nasal olfaction, barley sugar and vanilla flow across the back of the throat. Aromatic plants (bay leaf, chervil, verbena) then bring an otherworldly feel.
