Description

The Highland Park 1990 vintage is a 20 year old Orkney single malt release of the Highland Park Distillery. This whiskey was bottled in 1990 and ripened in both sherry and bourbon barrels before being bottled in 40% in 2010, without any added dyes. This 20 year old release is a beautiful bridge between the 18 year and the 21 year.

Nose
Aromas of fragrant cedar and orange peel, with notes of hard toffee, light peat smoke, herbs, sugar plums, honey, and cotton candy. Further hints of newbuck leather, orange zest, honeycomb, green pine, nutmeg, cloves, quince, cumquat fruit, herbal tea, grapefruit, orange jam, fruit muesli, and chocolate. [cite: Paneco, 2, 6, 9, 10, 13]
Palate
Thick and smooth mouthfeel with a slightly sweet taste of citrus, sweet vanilla, and complex herbs. Delicious stewed fruit and soft floral notes, with a noticeable peat and smoke influence. Spicy, bitter, yet elegant, with tobacco, leather, granola, dates, orange jam, fresh buttered pastry, heather honey, toffee, forest honey, oak, and tingling spices. [cite: Paneco, 2, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13]
Finish
Quite delicate and smooth, with a long finish. Medium smoke, hints of rubber, smoky, sappy wood, walnut, oak, and lingering smoke. Sweetness fades to bitterness, with dry tea tannins and an echo of orange jam.
