Description

This cask was the first selected by The Whisky Jury during a trip to Scotland. It is described as an exceptional Highland Park, very mature for its age, with a resolutely traditional character. It is very fruity, with the typical saline minerality of Highland Park. Notes of wood wax and nutty aromas reminiscent of sherry are also perceived. It is noted as being more complex than expected for its age, offering a remarkable finish and great complexity, tasting like a 30-year-old whisky at half the price.

Nose
Immediately mature with polished wood, beeswax and a touch of old furniture wax. Behind that ripe apple, pear and dried citrus, with a salty mineral edge that screams Orkney. With time, nutty notes appear, almond and walnut, almost sherry-like, alongside a hint of leather and gentle heathery sweetness.
Palate
Smooth, lightly oily texture with fruit spreading wide: orchard fruit, citrus zest and a faintly more tropical layer in the background. The mouthfeel is round and slightly syrupy, with accents of spice cake, citrus zest and elegant creamy oak.
Finish
Long and surprisingly complex at 46.6%, with lingering ripe fruit, candied orange, gentle spice and hints of vanilla and white chocolate. Complex, yet effortlessly drinkable.
