Description

The largest and oldest malt whisky distillery in the Orkney archipelago, located in Kirkwall on the main island. Founded in 1798, it is today part of the holdings of the Edrington Group and its whisky is world-renowned for the unique flavour provided to it by local Orcadian peat. * The oldest independent bottling company in Scotland and one of the earliest and foremost advocates for the single malts.

Nose
Loads of tropical fruit and vanilla, fresh baking, sugars, peach, banana and aromatic smoke, bit of citrus (lemon) and a fresh garden smell (grassy?). Warm, sweet peat smoke, floral notes (violets), lemon rind, sweet pudding, white pepper, wood spices and fresh leather.
Palate
Tropical fruits galore, spice and a smoke trail, mineral notes, barley juice and green notes, creamy mouth feel. Liquorice, gummi bears, vanilla pudding, floral notes, orange juice with spices, waxy, oily notes and well-integrated peatiness.
Finish
Medium long, full, spicy, vanilla sweet and lingering with not much oak. Light smoke, banana skins, marshmallow sweetness, bit of Oaky cigar box woody flavor. Warm, full and smooth.
