Description
Highland Park remains the most northerly whisky distillery in Scotland, although not by much, as it is little more than a stone's throw from fellow Orcadian, Scapa. Accounts of the distillery's genesis vary, and the truth is probably lost to the mists of time, but it is thought that a local farmer named David Robertson founded what we now know as Highland Park distillery in 1798, on the site of an illicit still. The Spirit of the Bear is part of a trio of Travel Retail market releases from Highland Park in 2018, inspired by the Viking warriors' belief that they could channel the spirit of the great forest bear. It is a smoky and bold single malt, created using a higher proportion of Orkney peated malt and matured in a combination of first-fill sherry seasoned European and American oak casks, as well as refill casks.
