I.W. Harper Gold Medal Japanese-market export release
Historical context

Special release
Japanese export
Allocation

Nose
Cinnamon spice, dry hickory nuts, floral deep rose scent and workshop wood. A very faint but persistent sweet vanilla undercurrent. Too much nosing brings an antiseptic and medicinal brute to the party.
Palate
Vanilla sugar, buttercream frosting and pear juice transition into a spicy backbone of white pepper, star anise, nutmeg, and old dry oak. The contrast between sweet and spicy is huge.
Finish
Spiciness transitions to mild astringency and a bit of mouth numbing. Abstract minerality comes and goes. Oakiness comes out more, reminding of an old wood-shop with dried oak planks. Everything fades in a minute or so but the oak lingers.
