Description

This is a 20-year-old single malt whisky from the Imperial distillery, distilled in 1995 and bottled in 2016 by independent bottler Signatory Vintage as part of their Un-Chillfiltered Collection. Imperial was a Speyside distillery that closed in 1998 and was later demolished in 2013, making its bottlings increasingly rare. This particular release was matured in hogsheads.

Nose
Elegant and inviting, with aromas of fresh apples, citrus peel, honey, and meadow flowers, alongside creamy and floral notes, hints of lemon peel, apricot, fudge, orange peel, grassy malt, ripe bananas, cumin, buttered croissant, sweet barley, vanilla, beeswax, toffee, nuts, oak, mango, pineapple, nectarine, red apple, and mint.
Palate
Smooth and refined, showing layers of orchard fruits, vanilla cream, malted barley, and gentle oak spice. Sweet on entry with a viscous mouthfeel, notes of oak, white chocolate, apple peels, earthy allspice, malty and oily textures, vanilla ice cream, grassy butter, caramel, strawberries, ginger, orange, nectarine, licorice, pepper, and tobacco.
Finish
Long and graceful, with lingering honeyed sweetness, light herbs, and soft fruit. Medium length with flashes of citrus, burnt sugar, crisp green apples, oily, creamy, and spicy notes with oak. Some sources describe it as sweet, spicy, and dry with notes of orange, nectarine, lemon, vanilla, oak, nuts, light bourbon, licorice, aniseed, and pepper.
