Description

United Distillers started the Flora & Fauna series in 1992, consisting of 26 different single malts. Originally the range did not have a name, but the late whisky writer Michael Jackson nicknamed it the "Flora and Fauna" due to the various animal depictions on the labels. The name has stuck and is known worldwide. This Inchgower 14 Year Old is a first edition bottling, denoted by its white cap. Inchgower is a coastal distillery in the Speyside region known for producing a spicy style of single malt.

Nose
Fresh, mildly floral and aromatic; herbal. Loose-leaf green tea, fresh thyme leaves, just-sliced green apple. A faint mineralic note, slight salinity or fresh sea breeze. Zesty tang with notes of sugary citrus, hints of hay and gentle breeze barley. Tones of blossom and apple peel with cocoa. Mineral, salty, soft vanilla and fruits.
Palate
Fresh, grassy and somewhat herbal, with traces of sour fruit. More tinned tomato sauce and green apple. Fresh mint, blueberry green tea. Austere with sharp sour fruit, grass and fresh herbs. Cocoa, some sweetness, grass; spiciness; citrus notes, still very fresh. Notes of arak and balanced tannins. Spicy notes with crystallized stem ginger. Mild with lemongrass and pepper, joined by citrus (lemon and lime), some ginger and a touch of oak. Sweet overall, but also curiously mouth-drying, with some salt and traces of oil.
Finish
Medium length with dried herbs, and still a tea-like quality. Drying to faint burnt grass notes. Wood, slight bitterness, drying with hints of perfume. Medium with spice and a tangy citrus note. Short, dry and grassy, hint of vanilla and spices. Saccharine-bitter finish that leaves an aftertaste of almonds. Medium, lingering sweet barley and tannin.
