Description
A Highland distillery that broke the hegemony of grain whisky being a traditionally Lowland industry when it opened in 1961. In its early days it provided fillings for third-party brands, the business model of Invergordon Distillers, before being merged into the Whyte & Mackay group in 1993. Located in the North-East of Scotland, Invergordon is one of the only grain distilleries found in the Highlands. These distilleries are usually found in Central Scotland due to the diversity of grains and easy transportation. It was in 1951 that Invergordon was founded, but only began operating in 1961. Four years later, Invergordon was home to the Ben Wyvis Single Malt which closed after twelve years.
