Description

The Hearach Decade Edition is a limited-edition lightly peated single malt whisky from the Isle of Harris Distillery, launched to celebrate the distillery's 10th anniversary. Distilled in November 2018 and matured for 6 years in three first-fill oloroso sherry butts and two first-fill ex-Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, it is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and natural colour. This release is notable for being the first from the distillery to use peat hand-cut from the Isle of Harris itself, imparting a subtle, smoky character.

Nose
Opens with gentle smoke, a slight maritime aroma, orange citrus peel, sweet brown sugar, vanilla, heather, and a touch of lavender. Caramelised oranges and dried citrus peel are prominent, with sweet nutty sugared almonds, dark brown sugar, and a touch of liquorice toffee.
Palate
Gentle and smooth with a creamy mouthfeel, mildly drying gentle smoke, orange citrus peel, a hint of tangerine, ginger spice reminiscent of ginger cake, and a background touch of marshmallow. Harris peat smoke complements spiced ginger cake and bonfire toasted marshmallows.
Finish
Lightly drying, with peppery oak before ginger spice returns. Gives way to creamy heather and a pinch of salt, fading into gentle smoke. Creamy, long, and elegant, with brown sugar, dried herbs, and a faint floral wave.
