Description

James Eadie's Trade Mark 'X' is a blended Scotch whisky that revives a historic blend dating back to the 19th century. The brand was relaunched by James Eadie's great-great-grandson, Rupert Patrick, who tracked down Mr. Eadie's ledgers and sampled surviving bottles from the 1940s to reconstruct the blend. It is crafted from select single malts and grains from distilleries James Eadie himself purchased from, including some that have long ceased production. The whisky is matured in American oak and sherry wood, and bottled at 45.6% ABV. It is described as an elegant, peaty dram, offering a glimpse into the art of blending from the first Golden Age of Scotch whisky.

Nose
Raisins drizzled with spiced rum and Sherry, a hint of grassy peat, oily walnut. Sweet notes of icing sugar, soot, soft earth, freshly cut hay, dark chocolate, sultanas, prunes, marzipan, subtle hints of chili and salt. Freshly cut fruit like sweet lime, apples and watermelon, with grassy and vegetal peat, rum and raisin notes.
Palate
Mexican chocolate, ripe red berries, brown sugar, soft peat smoke. Spicy flavours of mint chocolate, syrup, plums, prunes, roasted coffee beans, gentle peat and soft smoke, thick, rich cream and ripe dark cherries. Thick and chewy, with more peat and oak, sweet nuts and malted grains, chocolate and earthier tones of grass and blossom. Initial sweetness like light brown sugar syrup, herbal peat smoke, rich oily texture, orange and lemon citrus.
Finish
Juicy apricot and pear notes. Long, syrupy and gently spicy, gradually softening to leave subtle, distinctive stone fruit flavours. Strong, with lots of fruits and oak, peat smoke. Medium, with hints of the peat lingering and sweet oiliness coating the mouth. Long and drying, soft peat lingers with hints of bitter dark chocolate.
