Description

An Island single malt whisky from the remote Isle of Jura distillery, distilled in 1984 and bottled in 2014, making it a 30-year-old expression. This limited edition release, with only 1,984 individually numbered bottles, commemorates George Orwell, who wrote his famous novel 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' on the island. It was matured in a combination of American white oak, Amoroso, and Apostoles oloroso sherry butt casks, including ex-bourbon and Matusalem sherry casks from Gonzalez Byass.

The nose brings honey and vanilla alongside ginger, peach syrup and banana cake; then the palate shifts to ripe pineapple, bitter chocolate and rich morello cherries. That change gives the notes a nice bit of movement without making them feel busy. The finish is the main event: it’s described as long, rich and heavily sherry influenced, so there’s a clear sherry-led close to the story. A considered, characterful set of notes.
