Description

This Karuizawa 1984 Cocktail Series is a rare Japanese single malt whisky, distilled in 1984 and bottled in 2012 after 28 years of maturation. It was aged in a single sherry cask (#7975) and is part of the 'Cocktail Series' selected by La Maison du Whisky. Rich, refined. Malted barley, sherry with rancio, dried fruits (date, fig), orange zest and red fruits (strawberry, raspberry, morello cherry). Hints of tobacco and leather. Whiffs of kirsch and fragrant rosewater Turkish delight. Sweet, malty and elegant. Dark chocolate, espresso, leather, incense, spiced oak. [3, 4, 7]
Palate
Dense, fleshy. Deep sherry influence, umami richness. Minty and peppery with polished sandalwood. Vague fruits (apple, gooseberries, pink grapefruit). Nuts and vanilla. Juicy and intense. [3, 4, 7]
Finish
Long, silky. Precious woodiness with hints of apricot pie, quince jelly and fresh fig, extending to walnut, geranium flower and incense. Malty retro-olfaction and empty glass marked by chlorophyll and noble spices. Slightly shorter than expected, showing oak and fruity sweetness. Faint hints of almonds and incense. Dry finish marked by bitterness and elegance. [3, 4, 7]
