Description

The Kilchoman distillery, established in 2005, was the first new distillery on Islay in 124 years. It has gained a strong reputation for its quality single malts, particularly through its forward-thinking wood policy. All production, from floor malting, is carried out on site.

Nose
Very pure smoke, with a mezcal footprint. Slightly petrol-y, iodine edge, smoked lemons and light berries. Fresh sea breeze with smoked shellfish, saline notes, white pepper, subtle vanilla, and honey.
Palate
Sweeter initially, quickly turning to sharp, blade-y smoke, with a bitter, leafy quality and acrid sharpness of mezcal. Herbal, medicinal notes like burnt rosemary and thyme, with a hint of sweet agave and saccharose.
Finish
Long, on soft resins and ashes, briney fruits and herbal tea.
