Description

Kilchoman, established in 2005, is the first distillery built on Islay in over 124 years. This single cask release, matured for over five years in a Bourbon Hogshead (cask 169/2008), was bottled for Whisky Import Nederland. It is a distillery bottling, with an outturn of 258 bottles at cask strength. Kilchoman is known for its farm-based approach, growing some of its own barley on Islay.

The 59.8% ABV makes this a high-strength bottling, while sweet, ripe fruit offers a counterpoint to the heavy peat smoke. Citrus carries through from the nose to the finish, so the character isn’t only smoke-led. A compelling contrast, though peat is clearly the main event.
