Description

A Japanese whisky distillery originally founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo Co. It was initially only operational for seven years, however rising demand for the company's Mars blends in the 21st century inspired it to re-open the the site in 2011. Its single malt brand is named Komagatake. A brand of Japanese blended and single malt whiskies from Hombo Shuzo Co. It was first introduced in 1998 and bott ... This limited edition from Mars's Shinshu distillery was distilled shortly after restarting production in 2011, after being mothballed from 1992 to 2007. It has been aged in ex-sherry and bourbon casks for three years before bottling at a cask strength of 57%. [4, 10]

Nose
An abundance of sweet aromas projecting strawberries & cream, toffee apple, pink marshmallows, coffee, vanilla essence, sultanas, guava, chocolate, and toffee-coated coffee beans. A faint peaty scent and a hint of sourness. With water, mango puree, sweet buttered popcorn, and strawberry mousse become present. [1, 2, 4, 11, 13]
Palate
Thick and mildly creamy, nutty (beer nuts) with cinnamon banana slice, coffee beans, hints of port cigar leaf, and moderately spiced mocha. Ground allspice berries, pink pepper, malty and woody notes. Water accentuates peat smoke. Dark chocolate with toasty spice (cinnamon, nutmeg), fruit-cake touches (raisins, sultanas, toasted almonds), fresh pineapple, and a clean streak. [1, 2, 4, 11]
Finish
Long with spicy caramel popcorn, pepper, and peat. Becomes a little dry with nuttiness when cut with water. Rich, with spice and chocolate lingering. [1, 2, 4, 11, 13]
