Description

An Islay malt distillery that is located between Laphroaig and Ardbeg on the south-east coast. One of two Islay distilleries in the Diageo portfolio, it is the island's representative in the Classic Malts of Scotland collection and its classic 16-year-old is one of the world's best-loved whiskies. This limited-edition Lagavulin Distillery Exclusive Bottling was personally selected by the distillery team and is a vatting of double matured Lagavulin in specially-charred American oak casks and first fill bourbon hogsheads, bottled at natural cask strength in 2018.

Nose
Smoky dark fruits, malty sweetness, and a hint of pear and spicy oak. It also presents notes of bonfire smoke, ash, tobacco, burnt oranges, crème caramel, lemon juice, red grapes, lavender, and thyme. Some detect rich smoke and salt, with hints of leather, tobacco, and mentholated camphor-like notes, along with pecans, almonds, and briny coastal elements.
Palate
Deliciously malty with tropical influences of pineapple and fresh cherries, alongside salty and smoky notes and oranges. It can be earthy, with hints of streaky bacon, maple syrup, light clove, and aniseed, as well as bitter cocoa nibs and coffee. A chewy texture with peatiness, slight salinity, and a toffee element is also noted.
Finish
Sweet and long, with a whiff of smoke, smoked ham, leather, pineapples, and delicate sulphur. It offers lingering peat and sweeter notes, saltiness, chocolate, toasted walnuts, brown sugar, and cured ham.
