Description

Like most Islay malts, Lagavulin is definitely not for the faint hearted. The distillery was officially founded in 1816 (although illicit production on the site most certainly predates that), and produces malt with a signature style of earthy smoke and savoury undertones. 1962 marked a significant point in the distillery's history, as it was then bought by John Logan Mackie, whose nephew Peter wen ... This single cask Lagavulin malt was distilled in 1995 and released at the legendary Islay Festival of Music & Malt, Feis Ile, in 2009. It was matured in a single European oak cask until it was bottled for the annual festival.

Nose
Peaty smoke, bonfire, iodine, and damp moor soil, with underlying notes of fresh lemon, vanilla, ripe yellow fruits, orange, prunes, and a woody character with hints of leather and furniture polish.
Palate
Rich and oily, with intense peat smoke, maritime saltiness, and earthy notes. Flavors of dark chocolate, oak, and wood spices are present, alongside sweet and fruity undertones of orange, dried citrus, and a hint of sherry.
Finish
Long and smoky, with lingering notes of ash, dark chocolate, cocoa, and old leather, complemented by a touch of sherry and a dry, clean sensation.
